Every Child Deserves a Dentist They Can Trust

Hi, I'm Dr. Khushboo Ronak Khokhani.

Paediatric Dentist. Mom to a toddler. And someone who truly believes that a child's first dental visit should begin with a smile—not fear.

Every day, I meet children with different personalities. Some walk into the clinic laughing, some hide behind their parents, some are curious, and some are terrified because of a previous dental experience.

My job isn't just to fix teeth. My first responsibility is to earn a child's trust. Only then does dentistry begin.

My Story

Growing up, there wasn't a single doctor in my family. Medicine wasn't a family tradition—it was simply a dream I developed on my own.

From a very young age, I loved science. I was fascinated by how the human body worked, and I was always among the students who genuinely enjoyed learning.

At the same time, there was another side of me. I loved drawing, art, crafts, and creating things with my hands. I enjoyed paying attention to tiny details and finding joy in making something beautiful.

Looking back now, dentistry feels like the perfect combination of everything I loved as a child—science, creativity, precision, and compassion.

That journey led me to pursue my Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Government Dental College, Mumbai.

The Decision That Changed Everything

As my BDS came to an end, one big question remained. Which branch of dentistry truly belonged to me?

Like many young dentists, I explored different specialties. I thought deeply about where I would be happiest and where I could make the greatest difference.

Then, just one day before submitting my postgraduate preference form, I experienced complete clarity. It wasn't a dramatic moment. It was simply the realization that I already knew the answer.

Children.

They had always brought out the happiest version of me. Their honesty. Their innocence. Their endless curiosity. Their ability to smile even after crying just a few minutes earlier.

That was the day I chose Paediatric Dentistry. Today, I don't think I chose this specialty. I believe it chose me.

Dentistry Through a Child's Eyes

Children don't remember the filling. They remember how they felt. They remember whether someone smiled at them. Whether someone listened to them. Whether someone was patient. Whether someone made them feel brave.

That's why every appointment in my clinic begins with a conversation—not an instrument.

Sometimes we talk about cartoons. Sometimes superheroes. Sometimes dinosaurs. Sometimes school. And sometimes we simply spend a few minutes getting comfortable before doing anything at all.

Because a child who feels safe is a child who can be treated gently and confidently.

Becoming a Mother Changed Me Too

Life gave me another beautiful role—the role of being a mother. Today, I'm a proud mom to a wonderful toddler.

Motherhood has made me an even better paediatric dentist. It has taught me that every child communicates differently. That every tear has a reason. That patience is never wasted. And that sometimes a child doesn't need treatment first—they need understanding.

When parents sit across from me, I don't just see a patient. I see a family placing their trust in me. As both a paediatric dentist and a mother, I deeply value that trust.

A New Chapter

In 2019, I married Dr. Ronak Mehta through an arranged marriage. He is a Prosthodontist, and together we built our journey at Mint Dental Clinic.

Along with caring for children at our own practice, I have also worked as a consulting paediatric dentist at multiple clinics, helping children who were anxious, fearful, or visiting a dentist for the very first time.

Every child has taught me something new. Every smile reminds me why I chose this profession.

What Makes My Practice Different?

I don't believe in forcing children. I don't believe in creating fear to gain cooperation.

I believe in communication. In patience. In positive reinforcement. In celebrating tiny victories.

Sometimes the biggest achievement isn't completing a treatment. Sometimes it's helping a child walk out saying, "Mumma, I want to come back!"

Those moments are priceless.

If You're a Parent…

You probably have questions. Will my child cry? Will they be scared? Will they cooperate? Will the treatment hurt?

These are natural concerns. My goal is to make sure both you and your child leave the clinic feeling reassured, informed, and cared for.

Because healthy smiles are built not just with good dentistry, but with trust, kindness, and patience.

A Letter to Parents

Dear Parents,

Thank you for considering me to care for your child's smile. I know this trust is precious. I promise to treat your little one with the same patience, kindness, and compassion that I would want for my own child.
